Initiating your education with UNM

The first step in taking advantage of your educational benefits can seem like it will be the most tedious. At the VMRC we have a, "the more, the merrier" approach to new students. If anything is unclear about your path through your benefits and towards graduation, please come into the office! As a new student, it is very likely that you will have at least a few questions about the specific manner in which UNM operates. Addressing the specificity is one of the greatest services that we can provide. We are staffed by former and current UNM students that can give you useful and relevant insight into your next move.

Set an Appointment

It is recommended that new students come and meet with a VMRC staff member so that they can begin their education at UNM with confidence.  Please come by the office to meet with Jessie Preciado, Chiaki Ramirez or Vita Preciado.  We are here to help you succeed in your educational journey!

All student’s using their VA Education benefits at UNM Main Campus for the first time are required to complete the VMRC Veteran & Military Affiliated New Student Orientation.

During our VMRC Veteran & Military Affiliated Orientation, we go over our pre-certification process for any Military Affiliated Students (MAS) who are using VA Chapter benefits. You will also get the opportunity to learn about all the great services we provide throughout our office. The most exciting part of the orientation is you will get to meet our military friendly staff that is primarily made up of prior service veterans and dependents. The orientation is slated to last around 2 hours and we have multiple days and times you can choose from.
