Thank You for Your Service

Women Veterans

You Served. You Belong. You Matter.

You Are Not Alone

Women face considerable challenges during and after their military service. It is important that they understand they are not alone. Women veterans are entitled to the same veterans' benefits as men, as well as resources tailored to their particular needs.

There are almost 17,000 women veterans in the state of New Mexico. There are support networks, safety nets, and statewide resources available to help you connect, belong, and thrive.

At the UNM Veteran & Military Resource Center, we are committed to serving all veterans. We are forever grateful for your sacrifices, bravery, and service.

Female Veterans Throughout American History

A Growing Community at UNM

Women veterans continue to play an increasingly important role in the UNM military-affiliated community.

Based on Veteran & Military Resource Center certification data for VA education benefits available exclusively to veterans, women represented 12.3% of our certified veteran student population in Fall 2023. By Fall 2025, that number had grown to 28.9%.

This increase reflects the growing number of women veterans choosing UNM to pursue their educational goals and highlights the importance of providing resources, community, and support tailored to their experiences.

More than doubled in two years.

These figures represent students certified using VA education benefits available exclusively to veterans and do not include Chapter 35 Dependents' Educational Assistance recipients, as that population includes both spouses and children.

Did You Know?

Nearly half of UNM's military-affiliated students identify as women.

According to VMRC demographic data, approximately 46% of UNM's military-affiliated student population identifies as women. This reflects the growing presence of women in today's military community and reinforces our commitment to providing inclusive resources, programs, and support for all who have served.
