Student Health & Counseling

SHAC

Student Health & Counseling (SHAC) provides medical care, counseling, mental health services, wellness programs, and referrals for currently enrolled UNM students.

VMRC Tip:
Many military-affiliated students use SHAC for routine healthcare, counseling, and additional support during stressful semesters.

Center for Teaching & Learning

CTL

The Center for Teaching & Learning offers free tutoring, writing assistance, Supplemental Instruction, academic coaching, workshops, and study strategies to help students succeed.

VMRC Tip:
Whether you're returning to school after military service or tackling a difficult course, CTL is one of the best academic resources available on campus.

Accessibility Resource Center

ARC

The Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) provides accommodations, assistive technology, testing support, and accessibility services for students with documented disabilities.

VMRC Tip:
Many veterans qualify for accommodations related to service-connected disabilities or temporary medical conditions. Registering early helps ensure support is available when you need it.

Academic Advisement

Academic advisors help students understand degree requirements, choose courses, plan for graduation, and make informed decisions about their academic path.

UNM Libraries provide research help, study spaces, databases, technology resources, citation support, and access to books, journals, and scholarly materials.

Financial & Administrative Services

From paying tuition to registering for classes, these offices help students manage the administrative side of their education while keeping their academic records, enrollment, and finances on track.

Financial Aid

The Office of Student Financial Aid assists students with grants, scholarships, loans, work-study opportunities, and other financial aid programs available at UNM.

VMRC Tip:
Even if you're using VA education benefits, complete the FAFSA each year. You may qualify for grants, scholarships, or other financial assistance that can reduce your overall educational costs.

Bursar's Office

The Bursar's Office manages tuition billing, student account balances, payment plans, refunds, and other financial transactions throughout your time at UNM.

VMRC Tip:
Review your student account regularly, especially near the start of each semester, to ensure tuition charges and VA payments are processing correctly.

Office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar oversees course registration, enrollment verification, transcripts, graduation, residency classification, and academic records.

VMRC Tip:
Changes to your enrollment may impact your VA education benefits. Contact the VMRC before adding, dropping, or withdrawing from classes whenever possible.

Career Services offers career coaching, résumé and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, graduate school preparation, and career exploration resources.

VMRC Tip:
Translate your military experience into civilian language on your résumé. Career Services can help you communicate your leadership, technical skills, and accomplishments to employers.
